Skin Rejuvenation Pigmentation Treatments

Mesoestetic Treatments

At Luxe Appearance, we pride ourselves on being one of the few pigmentation centres in Auckland. With expertise in treating all forms of pigmentation and pigment disorders, we offer a multiple of pigmentation treatments and homecare products. But with so many treatments available, it can be hard to understand the difference between them, so we decided to break it down for easier understanding.

Is a combined peel made up of Azelaic acid, Resorcinol, Phyttic acid, that treats epidermal pigmentation and lesions, such as solar lentigines (sun spots), ephelides (freckles), dull skins with uneven tone.

Is a combined peel made up of Trichloroacetic acid, Kojic acid, Ferulic acid, that is suitable for focal application for more stubborn pigment that is unable to be treated by melanostop. It can treat solar and senile lentigines, post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation, ephilides and melasma.

Dermal Needling

Can treat pigment by disrupting and breaking up deeper pigmentation and disrupting the melanocytes production of excess pigment. In turn this can help stop the production of excess melanin.

Is our ‘creme de la creme’ of pigmentation treatments, as it is able to treat most forms of pigmentation and delivers some of our most drastic results. Whilst it is not for the faint hearted, those who can commit to the Cosmelan journey are always very impressed and pleased with their results. The complexity of pigmentation means that no singular treatments is the best above others, as they all treat different slightly different forms of pigment and work in different ways, sometimes even a combination of these treatments is what’s needed to banish pigment.

Skin Rejuvenation Pigmentation Treatment Overview

Human skin owes its colour to a pigment – melanin. Melanin is produced in melanocytes, chromocytes located in the epidermis. These cells have special structures referred to as melanosomes where, after numerous metabolic transformations, melanin is produced. It plays an important and useful role, involving protection of the skin against harmful impact of ultraviolet radiation. Excessive accumulation of melanin causes occurrence of brown or russet spots, especially in uncovered areas such as the face, cleavage, hands and arms. Factors which support occurrence of pigment spots is the skin aging process resulting from excessive exposition to sunlight, certain individual predisposition and the influence of hormones (pregnancy, contraceptives).

Not only does the COSMELAN® treatment enable effective removal of pigment spots, but it restores smoothness and radiance to the skin. The Cosmelan treatment programme is tailored to meet the individual needs of the patient and the patient’s skin photo type. The main indication is elimination of spots with a hormonal background (melasma, chloasma) and those caused by sunlight.

Dermamelan contains more active ingredients than Cosmelan and it contains salicylic acid (which is not contained in Cosmelan). The difference in composition may suggest greater suitability of Dermamelan for sebaceous skin, but Cosmelan also works well in connection with this kind of skin.

Is this a painful treatment?

During the first 2 days after the treatment and in case of very sensitive skins, the skin may be reddened. This is a normal reaction. You may also observe a feeling of tension and burning. To reduce the skin discomfort sensation, you may increase frequency of soothing cream application.

When does the effect appear and how long does it last?

Skin condition improves one week after the beginning of the treatment. Depending on the skin type, treatment proceeds at a different pace. In case of dark skin, spots disappear after 8-10 days. In case of patients with fair skin – blondes and brown-haired persons with light coloured eyes – disappearance of spots is observed between days 8 and 21. In 99% cases, intensity of spot colour is reduced by 95%. Although the discolourations virtually disappear, one can sometimes notice a shadow at their former location.

Therapy schedule

Stage 1: involves a consultation with your skin specialist, where they will assess your skin and discuss this treatment with you to prepare for you for next three months.

Stage 2. Involves treatment at the clinic with your skin specialist, the Cosmelan 1 mask is applied to the skin by our skin specialists The mask remains on the skin for a 8-12 hours, after which it is washed off by the patient at home. The mask application time is 8-12 hours and it is determined depending on the skin type.

Stage 3. Is a follow up visit 3 days later, here you will receive the remainder of your follow up treatment Cosmelan 2 cream. The cosmelan 2 cream sustains and deepens the treatment effect. Continuation of the treatment at home guarantees durable results of the therapy initiated at the clinic and allows effective removal of discoloration’s.

Although you will find noticeable improvement of skin condition and brightening of the discolorations and these will be visible towards the end of the first week, the therapy must be continued for at least 3 months. If shortened, the previous condition may return and the therapy may need to be repeated.

Post-treatment recommendations

Treatment continuity is crucial. If treatment with the preparation is interrupted, discoloration’s may reappear as the therapy does not eliminate the hyper pigmentation tendency, but only interrupts this phenomenon. After the end of the therapy, the patient needs to remember to apply appropriate SPF 50 sun protection products always. In fact, if proper protection is not ensured, and the body demonstrates a tendency to develop discolorations – the spots may appear again.
